15 Days and Counting...

On December 4 the Tibetan Boarderlands crew departs Los Angeles for Hong Kong. We’re headed for Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan Province, and then into the distant reaches of Tibet’s Eastern Plateau. The following six weeks will contain the execution of two major backcountry split-board and telemark ski routes. When I explain this to others, many stop to look at me with the ‘are you crazy?’ eyes. Sometimes it’s hard to explain; but among our team (consisting of Ryan Koupal of Boulder, CO; Brian Gault of Washington, DC; and myself, McNair Evans of Asheville, NC) anticipation is very high. Embarking on a spiritual and physical journey of this immensity has consumed us for many, many months:

In just over two weeks we will head deep into a Tibetan region never-before-traveled by visitors with similar goals. We are lured by the khora, the physical act which demonstrates homage to the majesty of the natural environment. We have translated our curiosities into a wintertime expedition, intrigued by the qualities of incredible solace amidst sacred land. In and out of towns and ranges of incredible remoteness, we will operate self-sufficiently and strategically.

We’re rechecking our gear lists and making all last-minute purchases. In early December we embark on the adventure of our lives to date.
